Richmond Community Hospital has been serving the healthcare needs of Richmond families since it opened its doors on February 15, 1903. The hospital was a culmination of a vision shared by Dr. Sarah Garland Jones, the first African-American and the first woman to be certified to practice medicine by the Virginia State Board of Medicine, and her husband, Dr. Miles Berkley Jones. After several location moves, the hospital today is a 104-bed acute care facility located in Richmond’s historic Church Hill area.
