Bon Secours Richmond Health System, a not-for-profit health care system, has four hospitals in the greater Richmond metropolitan area; St. Mary’s Hospital, Memorial Regional Medical Center, Richmond Community Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center. Richmond Community Hospital has been serving the healthcare needs of Richmond families since it opened its doors on February 15, 1903. The hospital was a culmination of a vision shared by Dr. Sarah Garland Jones, the first African-American and the first woman to be certified to practice medicine by the Virginia State Board of Medicine, and her husband, Dr. Miles Berkley Jones.
After several location moves, the hospital today is a 104-bed acute care facility located in Richmond’s historic Church Hill area. Richmond Community Hospital is proud to be a part of the Bon Secours Richmond Health System. Richmond Community Hospital maintains a proud heritage of providing healthcare to the residents of the City of Richmond for more than 100 years. The Department of Surgery provides new and innovative procedures, including general surgery, vascular and intravascular procedures, dialysis access, orthopedics, laparoscopic surgery, laser procedures and breast tumor management.
